Lee C. Hurteau, 65, of OgdensburgLee C. Hurteau, 65, of Ogdensburg, passed away November 13, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his devoted family. He fought a short but hard battle with pancreatic cancer. Frary Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Calling hours will be Thursday 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 and on Friday a prayer service at 12:30 p.m. at Frary Funeral Home, followed by a Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral at 1 p.m., with Father Joe Morgan officiating. Mr. Hurteau was born December 11, 1946 in Ogdensburg, the son of Charles and Florence (Irma) McWilliams Hurteau. He attended Holy Cross School, St. Mary’s Academy and graduated from OFA in 1964. He worked for Dodd’s Dairy while in school and after graduation he began work at ALCOA in Massena in 1965, where he worked as Heavy Equipment Operator for over 38 years. In retirement he and his family operated the concession at Coles Creek State Park for 3 years and he also worked for Lowe’s when they opened. He was also employed at one time by Harold Gillette Service Station. He served two years in the United States Army during the Viet Nam Conflict and was stationed at Cam Rhan Bay where he spent six months on land and six months on a PT boat. He married Linda Martin on February 24, 1968 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Ogdensburg, with Father Myron B. Hawkins officiating. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Martin Hurteau and his three daughters, of whom he was very proud. Victoria Lee Hurteau, Regina Lynn Jackson, both of Ogdensburg, Amy Nicorvo, Watertown, his sons-in-law, Michael Jackson, Ogdensburg and Edward Nicorvo, Watertown and his six grandchildren – Lee Hurteau of Rochester, Colby Lee Hurteau,Tupper Lake, McKenzie S.M. Hazelton, Jordin J. Hazelton and his wife Katie, and Linzilee Marie Hurteau, all of Ogdensburg and Lane J. Hazelton of Watertown and his two great grandchildren, Mya Annamarie Compo and Ivan Joseph Hazelton, Ogdensburg; and his brother in law and sisters in law, Royal and Gloria Martin and Ann Martin all of Ogdensburg. Also, his Aunt Carmen McWilliams, Sackets Harbor. He had made many friends through his hunting club and will be especially missed by Lester and Eric Marsh, of Star Lake and Eagle Rock, Minnesota. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Florence “Irma” Hurteau and his sister, Charlene McManus of New Hampshire, his brother in law Joseph Martin, sister in law Patricia Dempsey and In Laws Royal and Josephine Martin, along with aunts and uncles. The sudden death of his close friend Edward Martin was hard on him after taking care of his mother for three years until her death. He was a kind and gentle person liked by all who met him. Lee was well liked for his loyalty, friendliness and his sense of humor and quick laughter. He and his wife shared a love of the Adirondacks and he spent fun and happy days at their camp near Star Lake. He loved to hunt white tail deer, bear and caribou, enjoyed his Corvette and 1951 Ford Coupe. He and his wife were happy in their 10 year retirement and spent all of their time together. He especially enjoyed the company of his family and get togethers in the backyard in the summer and at camp on Labor Day weekends. He was a life member of AmVets Post 19, Ogdensburg, a member American Legion of Star Lake, Aldrich Fish and Game Club, Little River Hunting Club, Seaway Cruisers Classic Car Club. He was a past member of Moose Club, Ogdensburg and served 10 years on the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad where he was a rescue scuba diver. He also dove on many underwater wrecks in the area. Memorial contributions may be made to “The Hyde Fund”, Aldrich Fish and Game Club, Millie Garwecki, Treasurer, 9212 SR26, Lee Center, NY 13363. Monies acquired by this fund are used to send children to DEC camp in the Adirondacks, an activity close to Lee’s heart. |
