Leslie P. Cree, 47, of Akwesasne

AKWESASNE – Mr. Leslie P. “Les Butt” Cree, 47, of 18 Pyke Road, passed away on Sunday evening, June 17, 2012 at Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse after being transferred there from Massena Memorial Hospital.

Les was born February 7, 1965 in Massena, the son of Francis F. and the late Catherine David Cree.  He graduated from Salmon River Central School in 1985 and attended SUNY Canton for plumbing and carpentry.

He was a security guard first working at the St. Lawrence Center Mall, before going to T&D Enterprises in Akwesasne, where he was currently working.  He also worked for Lazore’s Construction for a short time.  He was a communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church. 

He was an avid race fan and enjoyed watching “Ernie” racing at the Mohawk International Raceway.  Les also loved to “cruise” the Rez in his Red Truck, jamming to the tunes on his harmonica, playing Radio Bingo, and spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Les is survived by his father, Francis of Akwesasne; his sisters, Marie Benedict of Akwesasne; Hattie and Kim Bashaw of Fort Covington; Carla and Dean Point of Cornwall Island;  Hilda Jean Cree and her companion, Paul Price of Massena; his brothers, Michael and Aline Cree of Akwesasne; Jason Cree of Akwesasne; and his godsons, Ernie Cree and Devon White.

He is also survived by his godmother and aunt, Julia David of Akwesasne; and additional aunts and uncles, Paul and Margaret Lazore, Daphne Cree, Marion Cook, and Peter and Rita Cree.

Les was predeceased by his mother, Catherine on April 24, 1992; three brothers, Daniel F. Cree on July 3, 1985 and Kevin W. Cree on April 18, 1986; and Allen Cree in infancy in January 1964.

Friends may call at the home of  Ernie Cree, his godson, 19 Pyke Road, beginning Thursday 2:00 PM until Saturday 10:00 AM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 11:00 AM at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores, celebrating.  Burial will follow in Kateri Cemetery.
