Lillian E. Benney, 81, of Chaumont, died Tuesday February 18th, 2014 at Samaritan Medical Center surrounded by her family, after complications from a cerebral hemorrhage.

She is survived by her husband, Reverend De-Wayne R. Benney; daughters Veronica Benney of Chaumont, Ginger M. Young and her husband Ronald of Chaumont, Janette K. Backus and her husband Brad of Brownville; sons DeWayne “Kevin” Benney of Chaumont, Kerry D. Benney and his wife Nancy of Chaumont; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a sister, Margaret Bourcy of Clayton, N.Y.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Veronica Jane, who passed months shortly after birth, her father and mother and two sisters.

Mrs. Benney was born October 4, 1932 in Three Mile Bay, N.Y., a daughter of Jay and Matilda Thompson Love. She attended school in Three Mile Bay and Chaumont High School.

She married her husband on August 11, 1950 in Brownville, N.Y.

Mrs. Benney worked at several local establishments in various jobs. Later she worked as a Home Health Aide Nurse for Jefferson County until she retired.

She loved to travel, was an avid Antique Collector, bought and sold many antiques specializing in postcards and furniture. Besides antiques she enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and loved to dance.  She loved children and most of all, was a born again Christian and loved God.

A spring burial will be in New Cedar Grove Cemetery. A private funeral for the family will be held at Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Three Mile Bay Ambulance Squad or the Town of Lyme Recreational Program.
