Louis G. Grieco Jr., 75 of Watertown


Louis G. Grieco, Jr., 75, 161 Bellew Ave., passed away Sunday April 8, 2012 at the Samaritan Medical Center.

Mr. Grieco was born in Watertown, NY, a son of Louis G. and Laura N. Canale Grieco, Sr. In 1956 he graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy. From 1956 until 1957 he attended St. John Fisher majoring in accounting. He received his associate degree in drafting and design from  Canton ATC in 1959. He then attended the University of Miami where he was a participant in the ROTC program. In 1961 he entered the United States Marine Corp. receiving flight training in Pensacola, FL. he was honorably discharged in 1963.

On November 30, 1963 he married Lynda R. Tomasich at St. Anthony’s Church with Reverend Paul G. Burnett officiating.

From 1963 until 1965 he attended Insurance School in New York City , taking a position with Metropolitan Life Insurance Agency in Watertown. He then received his Associates of applied science degree from Jefferson Community College in 1967. From 1967 until 1969 he attended Potsdam State University receiving his bachelor of science in math, physics and chemistry in applied science.

In 1969 he began teaching for Carthage Central School, retiring in 1994. While at Carthage Central School he also taught at Jefferson Community College for ten years and  at the Watertown Correctional Facility.

Mr. Grieco was a former member of the Italian American Civic Association, a current member of the Watertown Elks Lodge, American legion Post #61, the Watertown Golf Club and Zeta Alpha Phi Fraternity at Canton ATC.

He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and reading.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Louis G. III, Japan, a brother, Richard J., North Carolina, a sister and her husband, Sandra Grieco Peck and Thomas Peck, Arizona, several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Friday from 4-8 pm at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be held Saturday at 9:15 am with a funeral mass at 10 am at St. Anthony’s Church with Reverend Donald Robinson officiating. Entombment will follow with military honors in Glenwood Mausoleum. Contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Church, 850 Arsenal Street, Watertown, NY 13601.
