M. James Daily, 84, of Watertown


M. James Daily, 84, of Miller Road, Watertown, passed away October 28, 2013, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Mr. Daily was born December 25, 1928 in Waterloo, a son of Benjamin and Margaret Behan Daily. After he graduated from Watertown High School he became a sales associate for Empsall’s Department Store. Mr. Daily retired as a foreman for Underground Cable Systems from Niagara Mohawk in 1993 after forty years of service.

As a young man he was a member of the United States Army National Guard stationed at Camp Drum as a rifle specialist.

On, July 23, 1950 he married Beverly I. Wanamaker at Asbury United Methodist Church with Reverend Harlen McClunge. Beverly died in 1998. He married Linda Cybulska on December 27, 2001 in Delaware Township, PA.

Mr. Daily was a communicant of Holy Family Church where he was a Eucharistic minister, a leader of the Jesus is Lord Prayer Group and an assistant for Special Religious Education. He was a volunteer for the Catholic Youth Organization, CASA, was a Big Brother and a Foster Parent.

Mr. Daily was a baseball coach for the Police Little League and President of Federal Little League Baseball during the 1960s at Stebbins Field.

Mr. Daily authored three books: Pea Soup for Seniors with a Little Ham on the Side, The Brighter Side and Tales from the Camp Fire.

Surviving besides his wife are four sons and two daughters in law, David and Debra, of Black Riverk, Steven of Watertown, James of Carthage, Chad and Andria of Watertown; four daughters and three sons in law, Kathleen and Al de Aprix, Scotia, NY, Debra and Steve Groszewski, Harrisville, Sandra and Dana Beach, Watertown, Tamara Pulley, Syracuse; three foster daughters, Valissa Zehr, Florida, Sarah McNally, Lowville, Le Anne Jarvis, Watertown; 15 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew.

Two nephews died before him.

Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 pm at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be held Saturday at 9 am at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be held at 10 am at Holy Family Church with Reverend Steven Murray officiating. Burial will follow in North Watertown Cemetery.
