Margaret A. Trahan, 94, of Watertown


Margaret A. Trahan, 94, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 26.

Margaret  was born in Carthage, New York on March 4, 1919, a daughter of William H. and Lillie Cancross Wallace.

After the death of her parents, Margaret and her twin sister Marjorie were raised by their uncle and aunt, Robert and Hattie Jacobs. She lived most of her life in Watertown, New York.

She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Trahan in 1990. For many years she and her late husband wintered in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

Margaret graduated from Copenhagen High School in 1937. She was a 1940 graduate of The House of the Good Samaritan Nursing School. As a registered nurse, she worked at the House of the Good Samaritan after her graduation, until becoming a nurse for Dr. Roberts in his private practice. She became the nurse-in-charge of the HGS coronary care unit at its inception.

Upon retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the House of the Good Samaritan, was a life member of the House of the Good Samaritan Alumni Association and served as President of the Committee for the Nurses Annual Banquet.  She was a member of the New York State Nurse’s Association, the House of the Good Samaritan Auxiliary, the American Legion and the Jefferson County Historical Association and was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Watertown, New York.

She and her twin sister, Marjorie, were honored at the annual House of the Good Samaritan Nurse’s Banquet, celebrating their 70 year anniversary. Margaret was a dedicated and compassionate nurse and helped others throughout her life

She is survived by her twin sister, Marjorie A. Hyde, Watertown, New York; two nieces and their husbands, Catherine (Cartin) and Jerry Reback, Cumming, Georgia and Nancy (Cartin) and Paul Lightcap, Eagleville, Pennsylvania; many great nieces.

Predeceased are her brother, John Wallace and sister, Ellen Wallace Gray Prievo.

A special thanks to Marty and Bernard Ulman, her next door neighbors for over 49 years, and to her loyal and faithful friends Roxie and Ray Akins, who made her life comfortable allowing her to remain in her home for the past few years.

A graveside service will be held at  Brookside Cemetery on Monday, September 30 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Fred Garry officiating.
