Marion A. Massaro, 92, of Watertown
WATERTOWN, N.Y. — Marion Agnes Massaro, 92, formerly of Watertown, beloved wife of Pasqualino "Pat" Massaro, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24th, at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia surrounded by friends and family.
Born July 22, 1920, in New York City, NY, to William Mullaney and Kathleen McDonnell, she attended local schools in Yonkers, NY. Marion graduated from St. John's Nursing College, Yonkers, in 1941.
She joined the Army in 1942 and served four years as an Army nurse during World War II with duty in China, Burma and India, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1946.
Following her discharge, she attended SUNY Plattsburgh where she met Pasqualino “Pat” Massaro. They were married on December 13th, 1947.
The couple had nine children, and eventually settled in Watertown in 1964. Marion continued her career in nursing at both Mercy Hospital and The House of the Good Samaritan until her retirement. She was active in her children’s schools, a lifelong communicant of St. Patrick’s Catholic Parish, a member of the Altar-Rosary Society, the American Red Cross, and other community based organizations.
\Besides her husband Pat, she is survived by her nine (9) children: Patrick (Debbie) Massaro of Syracuse, Kathleen (John) Zarnosky of Woodbury, NJ, Michael (Michelle) Massaro of Schenectady, Mariam Massaro of Worthington, MA, Lynne (Robert Baker) Massaro of Rochester, Diane (Jack) McCormick of Watertown, Steven (Mary) Massaro of Dexter, Robert (Pam) Massaro of Richmond, VA, and William (Terrie) Massaro of Baldwinsville, 26 Grandchildren, and 11 Great-Grandchildren.
Marion especially enjoyed her large extended family and always welcomed visitors to her home.
She was an avid gardener with the ability to make anything grow and flourish under her gentle hand.
Arrangements are with the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, 632 State St., Watertown, with Visiting Hours on Saturday, April 27th, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM.
