Marjorie J. Rice, 76, of 122 LeRay St., Black River, passed April 27, 2012 at her home.

Born on August 30, 1935 in N. Creake, England, daughter of William T. and Mildred M. Raines, she graduated from school in England.

She married Charles R. Rice on August 1, 1963 at St. Mary’s Church, N Creake, England. Mr. Rice was stationed in England at the time serving in the US Air Force. The couple resided throughout the world and upon Mr. Rice’s retirement from the Air Force, the couple resided in Black River. Her husband passed September 15, 2007.

Mrs. Rice was a homemaker and in 1972 she became a US Citizen. She enjoyed reading books, cross stitch, knitting, cross word puzzles and being near the water. She loved cats, dogs and spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Among her survivors are a son and his fiancé, Edwin F. Rice and Elizabeth Reynolds, Black River; three daughters and three sons in law, Cheryl A. and Jeff Stayner, Glenn Allen, VA, Yasmin M. and Walter Bates, Shiloh, Illinois, Donna A. and Mark Hodge, Black River; 8 grandchildren and their spouses, Nicole and Aaron House, Brooke and Chris Gardner, Walter and Hollie Bates, Joshua and Jamie Bates, Jasmine Hodge, Desiree Hodge, Charles Hodge and Breanna Hodge; 4 great grandchildren, McKenna, Chloe, Jackson and Evania and a sister, Dorothy Howes, Brandon, Suffolk, England.

A sister Peggy Howes died before her.


A private memorial service will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Black River Cemetery.
