MaryAnn Gregory, 59 of Dickinson Center

MaryAnn (Dotta) Gregory, 59, Dickinson Center, New York, was called to her heavenly father on Thursday, July 19, 2012. She is survived by her husband of thirty years, Earle S. Gregory, Dickinson Center; her daughter Carolyn M. Gregory, Latham, New York; and her son James F. Gregory, Dickinson Center.

She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Nancy Dotta, Wentzville, Missouri; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Karen Dotta, Arcadia, Wisconsin; a sister, Frances Dotta, SSND, St. Louis, Missouri; a sister and brother-in-law, Gerald and Dina (Dotta) Atkinson, Rochester, Minnesota; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Celine Dotta, Arcadia, Wisconsin; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mark Gregory and Margo Campbell, Greenfield, Massachusetts; an aunt and uncle, Donald and Sandra Tillotson, Vestal, NY; and many nieces and nephews, as well as grandnieces and a grand nephew.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Marie (Weis) Dotta, Arcadia, Wisconsin; father and mother-in-laws, Herbert and Carolyn Gregory, Vestal, NY; and her oldest sister, Jacqueline (Dotta) Beauchemin, Taunton, Massachusetts.

Mrs. Gregory was a first-generation American, raised in St. Louis, Missouri.  She graduated from Fontbonne University with a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in General Dietetics, and a Master in Public Health in Nutrition from the University of Minnesota. She was awarded a Department of Health, Education and Welfare: Public Health Service Grant and was recognized as the “Young Dietitian of the Year in Wisconsin” in 1982.  She served as Assistant Professor/Director of the Community- Medical Dietetics Program at Viterbo University, LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and worked as a practicing dietician and dietetics educator for Cornell Cooperative Extensive, the New York State Office for the Aging in Delaware and Franklin counties, several hospitals and medical offices, and for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) of Franklin County.  She was a nationally Registered Dietitian for over thirty years and a New York State Certified Dietitian for the last decade.

During her lifetime, Mrs. Gregory strove to be involved in every community that she lived in, by volunteering in community and church organizations.  Often living far from extended family, Mrs. Gregory gathered friends for whom she cared very much.  Her care, interest and empathy, touched everyone whom she met.

Mrs. Gregory often described herself as a “domestic engineer” and this was evidenced in the way that she made her home, and cared for those around her.  She was always active and full of life – she could often be found cooking and baking for neighbors and friends, crafting and sewing, and working in one of her gardens among her flowers and vegetables.  A breast cancer survivor, Mrs. Gregory was known for her optimism, sunny personality, sage advice, and strong faith in God.  She was a friend, a wife, a sister, and a mother to many, even beyond her immediate family.  She appreciated the beauty found in life and tried to share it with all.

MaryAnn Gregory will be missed by her family and friends, and will remain in our thoughts and hearts forever.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 565 Andes Road, Delhi, New York.  The family will receive friends in the church’s undercroft between 10:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, relatives and friends are asked to send donations to any of the following organizations:  The American Cancer Society, FASNY (for the Governeur, New York or Philadelphia, New York Emergency Responders), the Brushton Food Pantry, the Moira Food Panty, or the youth medical assistance program of Compassion International.
