Mildred "Millie" E. Trudeau, 105, of Carthage
Carthage - Mildred "Millie" E. Trudeau, 105, died peacefully Tuesday, November 26 at the skilled nursing facility of the Carthage Area Hospital, where she had been a resident since September of 2012.
She had previously been a resident of the “High Rise” at 222 State St. for 27 years.
She was born in Utica, New York, on September 19, 1908, the daughter of the late Henry and Edith Philpott. She was an athlete in her youth; Millie broke her school track record in Utica, where she was known for running the 100-yard dash barefoot. She worked as an LPN with disabled children in Utica for several years, and later was an active volunteer at the Carthage Area Hospital for over 20 years.
She married Theodore R. Trudeau on July 18, 1929, and raised six children; Theodore Jr., Alice Weston, Jeanne Hagan and Nadine Chubb, who predecease their mother and Pierre and Lynnetta Trudeau, Mt. Morris; Gail Kirkland, S. Carolina; and daughter-in-law Ruth Trudeau, Carthage who survive her. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Millie and her husband were known for their dancing and they particularly enjoyed square dancing at Black River Valley Fiddler events. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting caps for newborns on Fort Drum and area hospitals. She loved playing bingo and bowling on the Nintendo Wii, as well as any activity offered at the skilled nursing facility. She was an active member of the Grace Episcopal Church for many years.
This beloved lady enriched the lives of those around her through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years. She had a zest for life that has inspired many of her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at noon in the Chapel of the Lundy Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, with the Rev. Walter E. Giles and the Rev. Ed Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Carthage.
Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home for two hours prior to the service, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
