Miriam “Liane” Haley, RN, 104, of Ogdensburg


Funeral services for Miriam “Liane” Haley, RN,  age 104, formerly of Proctor Avenue in Ogdensburg, will be held on Thursday at 1:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Ogdensburg with Rev. Laurena Will officiating.  Burial will follow the service at the Ogdensburgh Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2-6pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.  Mrs. Haley passed away Saturday (Dec 8, 2012) at the Spicer Adult Home surrounded by her family and care givers.

Surviving are great-nieces & nephews; Allan & Janis Nichols of St. Simon Island, David & MaryAnn Nichols of California, Jane Lahey Tarbell of Florida, Rev. John Nichols & his wife Sue of California, Dan & Linda Fay of Canton, Lad & Carol Nichols-Hanes of Chicago and James Lahey of Florida; cousins John & Agnes Bombard of Ausable Forks, NY, Sally & Joe Baker of Ogdensburg & Cynthia & Donald Clifford of Newport, NH. 

Mrs. Haley was born on December 20, 1907 in Churubusco, NY a daughter of the late Jesse & Ida (Tebo) Bryant.  She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1926 and continued her education receiving her register nursing degree from the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center School of Nursing in 1929.  She then married Charles F. Haley on October 18, 1933 with the Rev. Charles Woodley officiating the couple’s marriage.  Charles predeceased her on April 20, 1979.

Liane worked as a registered nurse for many years at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center, did some private duty nursing for area families and then worked for the Red Cross in Ogdensburg until her retirement.  She was a member of the Maple City Eastern Stars, First Presbyterian Church where she was an active member of the Presbyterian Women, The Remington Art Museum, St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center Nurses Alumni Association and an honorary member of the Wednesday Women’s Bowling League. She enjoyed camping in the Adirondacks and spending time with her grandparents in her younger years.

Mrs. Haley enriched the lives of others and contributed so much of her long life to the nursing profession, Ogdensburg community and her church, family and friends.
