MASSENA – Mrs. Gilda M. Rufa, 86, formerly of Martin Street, passed away Friday morning, June 6, 2014 at the St. Regis Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since February 2013.

Gilda was born July 1, 1927 in Italy the daughter of the late Alfouso and Mary Lombardi.  On December 2, 1954, she married Nicodemo C. “Nicky” Rufa in Naples, Italy.  He predeceased her on September 30, 2005.

Gilda was a homemaker and who once worked at Violi’s Restaurant and at the Massena Country Club.  Before moving to Massena, she worked at a sewing factory in Queens.  She was a communicant of the Church of the Sacred Heart and the Italian-American Civic Association.  She truly enjoyed cooking and also enjoyed knitting.

She is survived by her two sons, Richard and Robert Rufa, both of Massena; 3 grandchildren; and her sister, Adalina of Italy.

She was predeceased by her sister, Helen and her brother, Carmine.

Friends may call Sunday 6-8 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday 12:00 PM at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Donald Manfred, celebrating.  Burial will follow in Massena Center Cemetery.
