Nancy M. Bush, 74, Rte. 3, Carthage
Carthage – Nancy M. Bush, 74, 36595 NYS Rte. 3, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at home, under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Born in Carthage on November 25, 1939, the daughter of Herbert & Laura Zecher Meister, she was a 1958 graduate of Carthage High School. She married Donald J. Bush at St. James Catholic Church, Carthage on August 8, 1964. Don and Nancy were very happily married for 29 years, raising their two children, until his passing in August of 1993. Nancy enjoyed companionship with Wendell Hutt until his passing on April 23, 2013.
Nancy was employed by several local businesses, including Marine Midland Bank, 1958 – 1964; the Sahara Restaurant, 1970; the Fort Drum Officer’s Club, 1971 -1982; K&A Restaurant for one year; Porter’s Liquor Store for six years; Adirondack Core & Plug for six years and served as the registration clerk at the Carthage Area Hospital for 24 years, retiring in 2007.
She was a member of the American Legion Post #789 Ladies’ Auxiliary for over 50 years; she served on the committees for class reunions, alumni reunions, the Robert Wallace Scholarship Fund and was a past member of the Deferiet Senior Citizens. She was also a member of the Woolworth Memorial United Methodist Church in Great Bend. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, dancing and traveling.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Calvin & Jeanette Bush, Carthage and her daughter and her husband, Catherine & Perry Golden, Cape Vincent. Also surviving are her sisters, Shirley Maxwell, Malone, Helen Worley, Plattsburgh and her grandchildren, Benjamin P. Golden, Thomas J. Golden, Morgan J. Bush and Matthew C. Bush.
A funeral service will be held at the Woolworth Memorial United Methodist Church, Great Bend on Saturday, April 5 at 11:00 AM. Spring burial will take place in Union Free Cemetery, Naumburg. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 4 from 4-7 PM at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.
