Paul A.J. Wibbe “the Captain”, 68, of Alexandria Bay
ALEXANDRIA BAY, NY – Paul A.J. Wibbe “the Captain”, 68, of Bolton Ave., died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, at River Hospital, after being stricken at his home.
He was born December 29, 1945 in Syracuse, NY, son of Jack and Mable Dooling Wibbe. He was educated in Alexandria Bay schools. As a young man, he enjoyed traveling and working at variety of places around the United States. He was a career chef, working most recently at the Northstar Restaurant, in Alexandria Bay. A marriage to Cecilia Fitzsimmons ended in separation.
He played “Santa” at many local Christmas and private homes. He was a great help to many, known for snow blowing sidewalks for everybody in town.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Ann Newvine, their son Simon, at home, a son Paul of Rochester, NY and a special daughter in law Vicki Wibbe Pelton, a brother John L. and his wife Joan Wibbe, Baltimore, MD and a sister, Mrs. Rick (Mary) Martinez, Anchorage, Alaska. Three grandchildren also survive him.
A memorial gathering will be held Tuesday, June 24th, at Skiffs, downtown Alexandria Bay, beginning at 3pm.
