Richard Brian Bedford Sr., 66, of MorristownFuneral Services for Richard Brian Bedford Sr., age 66, of 700 Main St. Morristown, will be held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Walter Smith officiating. Mr. Bedford passed away at his home in Morristown early Thursday morning on January 24, 2013. Richard is survived by his loving wife Elfie; two daughters, Trina and Erica of Ogdensburg; three granddaughters, Kareen Bedford and her companion Nick Wallace, Kelsey Bedford, and Kaylee Bedford all of Ogdensburg; a grandson, Richard Bedford III; two great grandchildren, Kyland Bedford and Brielle Wallace; a brother , Bruce and his wife Maureen of Comox, British Columbia; two sisters, Gail and her husband Rusk Redmond of Edmonton, Alberta and Sherry and her husband Ronald Martucci of Brockville, Ontario; in-laws, Richard and Annelise Peterson and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his son, Richard Bedford Jr., in 2008, his parents and a brother, Billy Bedford. Richard was born on October 28, 1946, in Montreal, Quebec, the son of William Russell Bedford and Bernice Evangeline Granger. He married Elfie Renate Peterson on April 1, 1967 in Rome, NY. Richard served in the USAF from 1965 to 1969 repairing aircraft radar systems and was given an honorable discharge. After discharge, he moved his family back to Montreal where he worked at Maislin Transport Corp. until he was transferred to Syracuse, NY 1978. He was with the company until it closed in 1982. Mr. Bedford began a new career by completing a computer programming course. He then moved his family to Morristown, NY in 1986 where he worked several positions until settling into the job of computer programmer at Car Freshner Corp. in Watertown, NY until his retirement in 2008. He was an active member of his community volunteering with the Morristown Chamber of Commerce, the Morristown Public Library and other activities. Richard was an avid musician – self taught on the guitar as well as reading music. His primary influences were the Ventures, Buddy Holly and the Beatles, but appreciated all forms of music. He tinkered with learning the banjo, bass guitar, harmonica, keyboards; writing his own music and giving guitar lessons. He most recently was an original member of Jack Kelley’s Little Big Band, playing the electric guitar. He loved trains and building them with his son and grandsons. He loved electronics and technology and always was on top of all the latest innovations in music, computers, video and the internet. Above all, he was dedicated to his family and deeply loved his children and grandchildren. Donations may be made in his memory to the Morristown Public Library at 200 Main Street or the Morristown Volunteer Fire Department at 200 Morris Street. |
