Richard W. LaRose, 88, of Ogdensburg


Funeral services for Richard W. LaRose, age 88, of Ogdensburg will be held on Friday, November 29, 2013, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catherdral with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating.

Following the funeral service, burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery with military honors.

Calling hours will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at Frary Funeral Home, 515 Caroline Street, on Friday, November 29, 2013 before funeral services.

Mr. LaRose passed away at Riverledge Nursing Home on Tuesday morning, November 26, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.

Richard is survived by Eleanor, his wife of 67 years; a daughter, Christine of Macomb, NY; five sisters, Elizabeth Spoon of Rome, NY, Ola King of Ogdensburg, Florence Tosh and her husband, Jack, of Florida, Jane Rishe and her husband, Allan and Mary Ellen Seymour and her husband, William, both of Ogdensburg; two step-sisters, Marie Craven of Ogdensburg and Elaine Craig of Flackville; a step-brother, Jim Rishe, of New Mexico and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Richard Nelson LaRose in 1960; two brothers, Francis and Henry LaRose; a sister, Isabelle Andrews and two step-brothers, Lester and Kenneth Rishe.

Mr. LaRose was born on August 28, 1925 in Ogdensburg, the son of Nelson and Mary Graveline LaRose. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy. Richard joined the United States Navy in 1943 where he served on the USS BOXER and was honorably discharged in 1946 as Lieutenant 2nd Class. During his service he received the Victory Medal. He then went on to join the United States Army in 1949, where he served as a Sergeant, and was honorably discharged in 1952.

He married Eleanor Morrow on July 11, 1946 at Notre Dame Church with Rev. A. D. Charbonneau officiating. Mr. LaRose was employed by White Westinghouse as a district manager in California. Mr. and Mrs. LaRose moved back to Ogdensburg from California in 1996.

He was a 4th degree knight of the Knights of Columbus as well as a past member of the VFW.
Richard enjoyed playing golf and working around the house and spending time with his family.
