Roger C. Lawton Sr., 77, of Natural Bridge


Natural Bridge - Roger C. Lawton Sr. of Avery Road died early Thursday morning at his residence under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

He was born July 1, 1936 in the Town of Pamelia to the late Clinton Wilson and Josephine Baker Lawton. He attended school in Carthage.

He served in the Army Federal Reserves from 1960-1969.

He worked at Carbola for 17 years then he was employed as a supervisor for James River Paper Mill; he retired after 28 years of working.

He married Karen McKeever on August 16, 1997 at the Natural Bridge United Methodist Church. They both were custodians for the Natural Bridge United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Black River Valley Fiddlers, he enjoyed building various things, he loved his music, and he would play his music at local nursing homes. He loved dancing, he loved his animals. He was on the board of directors for the New York Old-Time Fiddlers from 2005-2010.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, Natural Bridge; a son, Roger C. Jr. and his wife Victoria, Natural Bridge; two daughters, Kellie Bailey, Gouverneur; Kendra and her husband David Scott, Kentucky; two step-children, Charles Pettey, Watertown and Maryann Thompson, Natural Bridge; three sisters, Geraldine Lawton George, Carthage, Sandra Lawton, Carthage and Lillian and Gary Fayette, Harrisville; a brother, James Lawton and his wife, Lorraine, Carthage, Edwin and his wife Priscilla Lawton, Carthage.

He is also survived by an uncle, Gilbert Baker, Natural Bridge, and an Aunt, Eleanor Karpinski, Boonville.

He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and cousins.

He will be missed by his three dogs, Prince, Princess and Isabelle, who were always by his side and whom he absolutely adored.

He is predeceased by his two sisters, Leona Mae Doyle and Genevieve Hubbard.

Calling hours will be Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the Lundy Funeral Home from 3:00-5:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel at 5:00 pm with the Reverend Frances M. Hemstreet officiating and the Reverend Wayne Arnold. Burial will be held privately in the Hillside Cemetery in Natural Bridge.
