Massena - Ronald J. McDonald, 86, of Talcott Street, Massena died Thursday morning (September 12, 2013) at Massena Memorial Hospital with his loving family at his side.

There will be no public calling hours.

A Mass of Resurrection be held for Ronald and his wife Geraldine, held 11:00 a.m. Saturday (September 21, 2013) at St. Joseph’s Church with Rev. Jack Downs presiding, Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Ronnie, as he was known by family and friends, was born in Ogdensburg, NY July 1, 1927, the son of Louis and Julia (Garceau) McDonald.

He served in the US Army Air Force during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, Ronnie started employment at Alcoa. He retired in 1982 as a supervisor, after 36 years.

On June 1, 1946, Ronald was married to the love of his life, Geraldine Layo, at the Church of Sacred Heart by Rev. Gerald Kellogg. Gerry passed away Friday August 30, 2013.

Surviving Ronnie are three daughters, Kathleen Besaw, Marilyn O’Neel and Gloria Dupree all of Massena; four grandchildren, Erica Grant-Jacks, Kristen McDonald and Meghan Hunter all of Massena; a grandson, Matthew McDonald of Ogdensburg, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ronnie was predeceased by a brother, Robert, and a son in-law, Robert Dupree.

Ronnie was a 56 year member of the IBEW, a life member with 38 years with the American Legion Post # 79, and also a life member of the AmVets Post # 4. He also was a 50 year member and 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council # 1141.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.
