Ruby B. Meeks, 87, formerly of West Lowville


Lowville – Ruby B. Meeks, 87, of River Street, formerly of West Lowville, died Wednesday evening, March 26, 2014 at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown. 

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Bethel Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Keith Hardy, Pastor, officiating. Spring burial will be in the Old Glendale Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

She is survived by seven children and their spouses, Janice and Charles Coffman of Charleston, WV, Charles W., Jr. and Carol Meeks of Auburn, NY, Charlene and Jack Lomeo of Southhaven, Mississippi, Judy Horan of Flippin, AR, Gail and Frank Woods of Olive Branch, MS, Debra and Charles Gaffney of Lowville, Rolland D. Meeks of Lowville; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is predeceased by her husband, Charles W. Meeks, Sr., who died April 9, 1988; a grandson, Shane Horan; a granddaughter, Colleen Meeks, who died in infancy, and a brother, Lee Whitney.

Ruby was born on March 21, 1927 in Wellsboro, PA, a daughter of the late Fred and Edna Cavanaugh Whitney. She attended school in Wellsboro.

On May 20, 1944, Ruby married Charles W. Meeks in Wellsboro, PA.  Mrs. Meeks worked for Beaverite Products in Croghan for 20 years, and worked in the shoe department at Ames Department Store in Lowville for ten years, retiring in 1996.  Mr. Meeks died on April 9, 1988.

She moved to Valley View Apartments in Lowville in 2006. Mrs. Meeks was a member of Bethel Church of the Nazarene in Lowville, where she served as a board member for several years.

Ruby was a member of the West Martinsburg Historical Society, the Singing Waters Senior Citizens, the Lowville Senior Citizens, and SAAB (Senior Citizens of the Nazarene Church). She enjoyed taking walks, participating in church activities and spending time with her family.
