Ruth D. Murphy, 93, of Watertown

Ruth D. Murphy, 93, Skyline Apts, passed away Monday at her home.

A prayer service will be 9:15 am Wednesday, April 18th at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home followed by a 10 am funeral mass at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Richard Kennedy officiating.  Burial will be at a later date in the Old St. James Cemetery, Carthage.  Calling hours are Tuesday, April 17th from 4 pm - 7 pm at the funeral home.  Contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church or to St. James Church, Carthage.

She was born in Carthage, September 16, 1918, a daughter of Charles E. and Mary Cecilia Quinn Ward.  She graduated from Augustinian Academy in Carthage in 1937.  She married George W. Murphy August 6, 1938 at St. James Church.  Mr. Murphy died January 15, 1983.

Mrs. Murphy was an LPN at the West Carthage Hospital and Ryan's Nursing Home.  She later worked as a secretary for the Air Force recruiter in Watertown, a clerk at the Globe Store in Watertown and a cook in the St. James Rectory.

Ruth was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Legion of Mary, the Ave Maria Circle at St. James Church and was a Literacy Volunteer.

She is survived by  two daughters, Mary Louise Murphy, New York City; Ellen M. Mayhew, Carthage.  A grandson Mark Patterson, Hampton, VA.  Two step grandsons Steven A. Mayhew, St. Cloud, FL and James M. Mayhew, Watertown.  Two great grandchildren, Nateek and Nora Patterson and a step great granddaughter, Jaelyn Mayhew.  Many nieces and nephews. 

She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Nora Patterson, a step grandson, Michael P. Mayhew, four brothers, Charles, James, Francis "Frank", Fenton Ward and two sisters Grace Keefe and Hilda Bacon.
