Ruth M. McLane, 95, of West Carthage


West Carthage – Ruth M. McLane, 95, formerly of Grandview Courts, 40 N. Broad St., and the Country Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, died Wednesday morning at University Hospital in Syracuse, where she had been a patient for a short time.

Born on July 1, 1917 in West Martinsburg, the daughter of Ray W. & Grace S. Terrillion Archer.  She graduated from Lowville Academy.

She married Clarence McLane on February 24, 1935 at the St. Peter’s Rectory on Lowville.  They were a licensed foster home from 1938 – 1971 and had many foster children. Mr. McLane died on September 25, 1986.

She was employed as a Nursing Assistant and Ward Clerk for the Lewis County Hospital and the Carthage Area Hospital, retiring from Carthage Area Hospital.

She enjoyed gambling, bowling, knitting and crocheting and was an avid reader.

Ruth is survived by her children, Ruth and her husband Bernard Brady, Copenhagen, John and his wife Roberta McLane, Theresa, Peter McLane and his companion Jackie Houck, Beaver Falls and Doug and his wife Alfreda McLane, Deer River.

Also surviving are her siblings, Bob Archer, Lowville and Jane Rieves, Carthage; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, Clarence, a daughter, Beverly Grace, who died as an infant, her sister, Marguerite Rhubart and her grandchildren; Jan Brady, Joseph McLane and Debra McLane.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 1st  at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Copenhagen, with the Rev. George F. Maroun, Pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in West Lowville Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday evening, June 30 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Church, NYS Rte. 12, Copenhagen, NY 13626.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Country Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the many years of thoughtful and caring service they gave Ruth.
