Sarah B. Burnash, 92, of County Route 76, died Saturday morning at her home where she had been under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
The funeral service will be 10:30 am Wednesday at Saint Cecilia’s Church, Adams, with Rev. Patrick Ratigan officiating. Burial will be in the Saint Cecilia’s Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams.
Born March 16, 1921 in Huntsville, AL, daughter of Emmett and Nettie Goodwin Bottoms, she graduated from Salem University, West Virginia and received her masters degree in education from Potsdam State Teachers College.
She married William T. Burnash on December 31, 1946. The couple lived in Adams Center where Mr. Burnash was a former postmaster. He died May 7, 2001.
Mrs. Burnash taught local schools and retired from Watertown High School. She was also an Associate Professor of Business at Jefferson Community College, Watertown.
She was co-owner of the Golden Horseshoe Stable with her husband and assisted him with riding lessons and managed the ranch’s tack-shop and business.
She is survived by fours sons, Joseph (Mary) Burnash, Syracuse, Daniel (Carol) Burnash, Albany, Timothy (partner Mark) Burnash, Westport, CT, Peter (Mark), Stamford, CT; two daughters, Gale (Joseph) Lackey, Ft. Collins, CO, Justine (John) Fisher, LaFargeville; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by one brother and two sisters .
Mrs. Burnash enjoyed knitting receiving blankets, hats and booties for all of her grand and great grandchildren.
She was a member and officer of the Watertown City School Retired Teachers Association.
