Virginia A. Lambert, 82 of Croghan
Virginia A. Lambert, 82, of Long Pond Road, Croghan, formerly of Naumburg Lane, died early Sunday morning, December 8, 2013, at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.
There will be no calling hours or funeral. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Naumburg Union Cemetery, with Pastor Nathan Zehr officiating.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367 or a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are with the Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
Mrs. Lambert is survived by nieces and nephews.
Virginia was born on June 7, 1931 in the Town of Croghan, a daughter of the late Herbert (Bert) H. and Rose Vincey Hoppel. She graduated from Beaver River Central School in 1949, and worked summers at Beaverite Products in Beaver Falls, NY. She entered Crouse Irving Hospital School of Nursing, and graduated in 1952 as a Registered Nurse. She was employed at Carthage Hospital on State Street, as a supervisor under the ownership of William K. Reeves, and later Rosalie and James Sligar.
Virginia married Robert J. Lambert on September 30, 1953 at the Lowville Baptist Church with Rev. William Sawin officiating. In 1960, she and her husband purchased the Wilson Hooper Electrical & Appliance Store, which they operated from 1960 until they sold the business to Nathan and Ruth Zehr in 1983. Mr. Lambert, a Veteran of World War II died on June 2, 1994.
Mrs. Lambert was a member of Salem Christian Fellowship, and Emmaus Bible Fellowship. She was a life member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912, VFW, and a life member of Beaver River Memorial Post #1663, Croghan American Legion, where she was past vice president.
She was a life member of the Beaver River Fish and Game Club, and was a past director of the Naumburg Union Cemetery Association. She was a founding member of the Long Pond Swamp Club.
Virginia enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting and playing cards. She also enjoyed history, and going to auctions and garage sales.
Virginia enjoyed being a care giver to others.
