CRANBERRY LAKE – Wilbur J. Stout, age 94, of Cranberry Lake and formerly of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at the Clifton-Fine Hospital.
Calling hours will be held at French Family Funeral Home, Star Lake, on Tuesday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. His graveside service will be on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Cranberry Lake Cemetery with military honors.
Wilbur was born on July 3, 1917 in Galeton, PA to the late Percy and Hazel (Ellis) Stout. He graduated from the Tupper Lake High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He entered into the military on February 12, 1941 and served until his honorable discharge on October 15, 1947. Mr. Stout was in the 2nd Armored Division and was deployed to Africa and Europe. He received the Distinguished Unit Badge and 5 Battle Stars.
He married Evelyn M. Hayes on April 1, 1947. She passed away on March 25, 2002. Wilbur worked as an iron worker for 30 years until his retirement in 1979. He was a member of the Local 417 Iron Workers in Wallkill, NY since 1949 and was a member of the Green Haven Fish and Game Association in East Fishkill. He was also a lifetime member of the Cranberry Lake Fish and Game Club
His survivors include two step-sons; Leroy M. Russell, Sr. and his wife Barbara of Beaver Creek OH, Ronny K. Russell of Cranberry Lake; and two sisters, Janet Tharrett and Grace Morin. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Thomas, Christy, Deborah and Roy Russell; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Evelyn; a brother, Hugh Stout; and three sisters, Winona Morczyski, Ruth Kjelgaard, and Lillian McNally
