William J. Flynn, Jr., 86, life-long northsider, passed away Monday evening, June 16, 2014, at Samaritan Summit Village surrounded by his family.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc. on Friday, June 20, from 3 - 7PM. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, June 21, at 1PM and burial will be at the convenience of the family in Glenwood Cemetery.

Bill was born in Watertown on January 20, 1928, son of William J. and Mary E. Barnes Flynn. He graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy in 1947.

On February 4, 1950 he married Mary E. Easton at Holy Family Church with Rev. F. P. Shue officiating.

He worked many years for the family business, Flynn's Crystal Springs Water. Bill also worked in sales and delivery for Tip Top Bakery and Stroehmann Breads, and was a laborer for NYS DOT.

His Catholic faith was at the center of his life. He had a great love for Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church.  He was a member of the Holy Name Society and an active festival participant since its conception in 1969. Bill’s clam chowder drew “faithful” customers year after year. He was a Bishop Conroy General Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Watertown Knights of Columbus Council 259, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Northside Improvement League and the Elks.

He continued his father’s tradition in the role of Santa for St. Patrick’s Orphanage.  Bill took great pride in being Irish and was instrumental in the founding of the Irish Festival as well as a dedicated volunteer. He orchestrated many clam bakes over the years. He enjoyed dancing with his wife, watching parades, listening to bagpipes, and chasing fire trucks. He was an official member of the FBI (Flynn’s Bureau of Investigation). Bill will mostly be remembered for his “one-of-a-kind” sense of humor and his welcoming smile.

Besides his wife, Mary, he is survived by his 7 children, Robert J. and JoAnn Flynn, OK, Sr. Mary Jo Flynn, SSJ, Rochester, William J. III and Amy Flynn, Black River, Theresa M. and James Coullier, Watertown, Margaret E. Fiorentino, Baldwinsville, Thomas J. and Anna Flynn, TX, and Christine E. and Mark Alteri, Watertown; 23 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Agnes E. Keegan and Sarah B. Palumbo, both of Watertown; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his 2 brothers, James F. and John Flynn, his 3 sisters, Virginia F. Flynn, M. Catherine Stiegelbauer, and Margaret F. Henry, son-in-law, Scott J. Fiorentino, and granddaughter, Rosie C. Flynn.

Donations in his name may be made to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church Boiler Fund, 320 W. Lynde St., Watertown, NY 13601. He loved his parish and he hated to be cold.
