Worth F. Tibbles, Sr., 87, formerly of RedwoodWorth F. Tibbles, Sr., 87, formerly of Redwood, NY, died Sunday, May 6th at Mercy of Northern New York, where he had been a resident since 2004. Worth was born July 2, 1924 in the town of Theresa, the son of Albert and Mable Ritter Tibbles. He attended Theresa schools and then served in the United States Army from October 20, 1945 until December 22, 1946. He was a carpenter for Charles Garlock & Sons, Alexandria Bay. In his younger days he worked for the New York Railroad. Worth married Gertrude M. Putnam on December 27, 1945. She passed away on September 14, 1989. Worth was a member of the American Legion in Redwood and the Redwood Volunteer Fire Dept. He enjoyed bullhead fishing and spending time with his family. He is survived by two sons, Edwin Tibbles, and Worth F. Tibbles, Jr. (and wife Jean) of LaFargeville; daughters, Linda Hirschler (and her companion Joseph Eggleston), Redwood, and Cheryl Karllson, Augusta, ME; twelve grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Jeffery, a brother William Tibbles; and four sisters, Madelyn Tibbles, Isabelle Tibbles, Katherine Tibbles and Beulah Pritty. A graveside service with military honors will be held Saturday, May 12th at 11:00 am at Redwood Cemetery with Rev. Edgar Hunter officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Redwood Fire Department. Arrangements are with Costello Funeral Service, Alexandria Bay. |
