North Country Arts Council is really rocking.  The newly remodeled group is bristling with activity, events and ideas to infuse the North Country with arts.  Their energy and dedication is intoxicating and here’s wishing them great success.

Here is some news from this cool collective:

On May 16, 2009, the North Country Arts Council sponsored an arts event called Plein Aire on the Square, it was held in conjunction with the Armed Forces Day Parade and the rededication of the Lady of the Lake fountain on Public Square.

Artists and performers were invited to share their talent with the community in the downtown area.  The artists were on location capturing the feel of the day in original works while performances were presented before and after the planned city events.

AND

North Country Arts Council presented an award at the Tri-County Art Show.  The award presented by the North Country Arts Council is intended for a student who has produced "Art That Inspires People to Action".  The 2009 winner of the North Country Art Council award is Malarie Gokey, a Senior at South Jefferson Central School and student of Mary Ellen Shevalier.

The Tri-County Art Show is a show held at the State Office Building each May by Art Teachers of students K-12 at all of the schools in the tri-county area. Ms. Gokey’s artwork is named "Desire"

Ms. Gokey’s parents are Brenda Moot & Mike Gokey of Adams Center, NY.  Ms. Gokey will be attending NYU for journalism & human rights in the fall.

Mary Ellen Shevalier said of her student’s achievement, “…I was so pleasantly surprised to see that our new Artist Council gave an award! This is truly a beautiful indication of the new energy and support through your organization. Also, Mal is such a perfect match for the intention of the award. She is a true Renaissance woman who is deeply passionate about her studies, art, and acting. She always carries a positive activist's attitude with her in all of her endeavors and never misses an opportunity to speak out for others and a better world. This was evident in her art work. SJCS is so pleased that you validated her passion through this wonderful recognition.”
