Adirondack Museum Hosts Quilting Demonstration
Blue Mountain Lake, N.Y. Do you admire intricate, colorful quilts - but are confused by the terms, techniques, and processes that can easily befuddle the non-sewer?
Quilter and quilting instructor Linda Bennett will de-mystify two aspects of the quilter's art - patchwork and quilting - in demonstrations at the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake, New York, from July 30 through August 3, 2009. The demonstrations will be held in the Mark W. Potter Education Center from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and are included in the price of general admission.

Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site
War of 1812 Weekend

Saturday and Sunday, August 1st and 2nd 2009
Experience life during the War of 1812. Living history re-enactors and suttlers from the US and Canada gather at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site Saturday and Sunday August 1 & 2 for a bigger and better-then-ever event. Bateaux add to the excitement and authenticity of the living history weekend. Games and toys of the early 19th c. draw families to this annual event in Sackets Harbor.
Take a trip back in time to the War of 1812. See camp life, soldiers and marines drill and watch the firing of muskets and cannon. Learn about military traditions at the battlefield while watching a wreath laying ceremony. Take a stroll around the soldiers’ camp where meals simmer over the open fire. Watch bateaux maneuver in the harbor and along the shoreline in a mock battle. Shop for period merchandise at the suttlers’ tents.

announced its August “Artist of the Month”, Leslie Beale. A FREE Opening Reception will be held Saturday, August 1, 2009 from 1 - 4pm at the Sackets Harbor Arts Center, 119 W. Main St., Sackets Harbor. Mrs. Beale’s art will be featured through the month of August.
Mrs. Leslie Deil Beale grew up in a military family and is now a military wife and currently resides in Evans Mills. Her preferred media are oil pastels and watercolors, with an interest in strong colors. She participated in art shows across the country and placed in an international competition. She earned her degree in Studio Art from Ripon College, Ripon, Wi. As a student, she interned working in ceramics and in graphic design . She is a circuit librarian for Samaritan Health in Watertown, N. Y.
