The 9th Annual Harvest of the Arts Festival

At Maple Ridge Center, East Road in Lowville

Saturday, October 3rd from 10AM-5PM

Sunday, October 4th from 12-5pm 

Outstanding local artisans will be demonstrating throughout the weekend sharing their inspiration and creative processes including weaving, jewelry and basket making, drawing, photography, blacksmithing, carpentry and more.

Next door the Children’s Art Barn has plenty of hands on art projects for kids to make masterpieces of their very own.

Saturday will see the return of Arnie’s Mini Train and horse drawn wagon rides, and the popular Tug Hill Quilters will be featured in the main house.  There will also be outdoor performances all day long.

New this year is the Lowville Senior Art Show with a “chocolate reception,” compliments of the Croghan Candy Kitchen.  I love chocolate especially from Croghan Cany Kitchen.  Delicious food will also be available from local vendors including Crazy J’s, New York Pizzeria, Fiesta Mexicana, the Freeman Taffy Wagon and more, with plenty of undercover seating.  

Our artists then invite you to return on Sunday for more demonstrations and community fun with a Harvest Square Dance, featuring the Adirondack Playboys and a scrumptious chicken barbecue. 

Admission covers both days and is $3.00 for ages 12 and up, $1.00 for kids 5-12 years old, free for children under 5, and includes all the activities. The Northern Federal Credit Union, our presenting sponsor, will also hold a free raffle for all attendees throughout the weekend.

Jefferson County Youth Celebrate National 4-H Week October 4-10

Watertown, NY   October 4-10 is National 4-H Week, and Jefferson County is celebrating with our 4-H Fall Festival.  

 

On October 3 at 10:00 a.m. at the Youth Exhibit Hall on the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds local 4-H youth will conduct a fall festival featuring a craft show, pumpkin decorating contest, dog demos, music, a dance, ATV safety, science experiments and much more. 

 

In JeffersonCounty, more than 500 4-H members and over 30 volunteers are involved in 4‑H.The fundamental 4-H ideal of practical, “learn by doing” experiences encourage youth to experiment, innovate and think independently. 4-H programs are offered through school-based, after-school and camp settings and within community clubs.

Harvest Festival at the Adirondack Museum

Fall into fun!  The Adirondack Museum at Blue

Mountain Lake, New York will hold its annual Harvest Festival extravaganza on Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4.

Both days will feature activities for the entire family from 10:00 a.m.until 5:00 p.m. The Adirondack Museum offers free admission to year-round residents of the Adirondack Park in the month of October - making Harvest Festival an affordable and wonderful fall getaway for all Adirondackers.

The Adirondack Museum will sponsor a Harvest Food Drive as part of the festival.  In support of Warren-Hamilton Community Action, donations of non-perishable food items - canned or dry - will be collected in the lobby of Visitor Center.   Donations will be accepted from September 29 through October 6, 2009.

Circle B Ranch in Chestertown, N.Y. will provide leisurely rides through the museum's beautiful grounds in a rustic wagon filled with hay bales. Youngsters will enjoy pony rides was well - providing the perfect photo-op for proud parents.

Relax in an Adirondack chair and enjoy traditional folk music by two of the North Country's most talented musicians.  Roy Hurd and Frank Orsini will fill the crisp autumn air with the sounds of guitar, fiddle, and original lyrics inspired by the mountains. Shows will be offered on each day of the Festival at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Other Harvest Festival highlights include cider pressing, a blacksmithing demonstration, barn raising for young and old, as well as pumpkin painting and crafts inspired by nature. A talented group of regional artists and crafters will offer unique handmade items for sale. Kids can jump in a giant leaf pile on the museum's center campus and enjoy harvest-themed games and activities.

The First Presbyterian Church of Potsdam (42 Elm Street) will hold its annual Fall Rummage Sale starting Thursday (Oct. 1) from 9 AM to 8 PM,

Friday (Oct. 2) from 9 AM to 3 PM, and Saturday (Oct. 3) from 9 AM to noon.

Fall and winter clothing ($3 per bag), toys, shoes, bedding, books, housewares and collectibles.
