The last Minute:

 Go:

On Monday, October 19, 2009, the Jefferson Community College fall 2009 lecture series will feature a presentation on life after the 1959 Cuban Revolution by Alina Fernandez at 7:00 p.m. in the Robert R. and Jean S. Sturtz Theater, McVean Student Center. Admission to the presentation is free and the public is invited to attend.

Fernandez, daughter of Fidel Castro, will share snippets of Cuban politics and society in the 1960’s and 70’s as well as a detailed view of her father. She was just a toddler when Fidel Castro overthrew the Batista government in 1959. Her upbringing was a mixed up combination of both privilege as a Cuban elite and deprivation.  As she grew older, Fernandez rebelled and joined the political dissident movement in Cuba. In 1993, she was forced to flee and now resides in the United States. In 1998, St. Martin’s Press published her autobiography entitled, Castro’s Daughter: An Exile’s Memoir of Cuba.

For more information about the presentation, call the JCC Student Activities Center at 315-786-2431.

Sponsored by the JCC Social Cultural Committee and Student Government.
