THEATER PICK

Indian River High School – My alma mater – where I spent many years in the principal’s office – just kidding –I actually spent a lot of time on the stage there - is producing one of my favorite farces of all time.

October 23 & 24 at 7:00PM

The Drama Club presents

Noises Off

By Michael Frayn

About the show: Lloyd Fellowes is the director of a theatre company. He's desperately trying to get his production together, despite the best efforts of the cast, the crew, and Lady Luck. We follow the production from final rehearsals, through opening night, and onto the tour: as with any group of actors forced to work closely together for any great length of time, romances and arguments are bound to break out. Quite often, what's happening on stage is nothing compared to what's happening backstage.

This show is a complete hoot! I loved the movie adaptation with Carol Burnett and Christopher Reeve and the late great John Ritter. Check out this show, you will be entertained.

Tickets: $5 General Admission

Box Office: 642-5521

ART PICK

6X6 Art Opens Doors –

A unique art event that benefits the Children’s Clinic.

1,600 pieces of artwork for sale.  That’s right you read that correctly One-Thousand Six Hundred pieces of art!  If you are worried about finding something you like, please don’t.  Because, I repeat there are 1,600 to choose from.  You don’t have to know a lot about art to know what you like, and with this volume, trust me, you will find something you like.

At 6 inches by 6 inches these little gems, by famous artists, emerging artists, and just anyone who wants to express themselves, are perfect decorating accents for bathrooms, porches, fireplace mantles, and that odd swatch of wall, where you need a little something.

You can buy several and create a collage on the wall going up the stairs, to fill that vacant space.  Or you can buy several and switch them out over a period of time. Perhaps each one could represent a different season.

All Artwork is $20.  A piece of original art, for $20!  You will not find prices like this anywhere else.

On Friday, October 23, 5:30-7:00 pm is the art preview. The Preview is a $36 and gets you first in line to choose your art. After 7pm there is no admission fee and all art is $20.

At Jules Center at Jefferson Community College

Meet disability expert John Lancaster and attend preview art at a cocktail party.

Tickets are $36 (6x6)

This cocktail party is the best way to get the piece of art you want, as you will be able to view the art before the show and sale is opened to the general public.  You can also purchase sold tickets ahead of time, to save time in case there is something you just have to have and you are afraid of losing it to another shopper.

At 7:30pm disability expert John Lancaster will present a lecture “ Art Opens Doors”. The art sale will be open to the general public beginning at 7pm.

All Artwork is for sale all day Saturday as well.

For questions and to make reservations for the cocktail party call 782-9450.

MUSIC PICK:

Richie Havens

Gifted with one of the most recognizable voices in popular music, Richie Havens has a soulful singing style that remains as unique and ageless as when he first emerged from the Greenwich Village folk scene in the early 1960s. It’s a voice that has inspired and electrified audiences from the Woodstock Music & Arts Fair in1969, to the Clinton Presidential Inauguration in 1993 -coming full circle with the 30th Woodstock Anniversary celebration, “A Day In The Garden”, in 1999.

For over three decades, Richie has used his music to convey messages of brotherhood and personal freedom. With more than twenty-five albums released and a touring schedule that would kill many a younger man, he continues to view his calling as a higher one. As he told The Denver Post, “I really sing songs that move me. I’m not in show business; I’m in the communications business. That’s what it’s about for me”. For the fans, it’s about how Richie embodies both, and in the summer of 2008, Richie Havens delivers to his fans a bold collection of new material on his release Nobody Left to Crown (July 29, 2008 / Verve Records).
