First of all, let me apologize for not posting more often recently, there has been an election, a world series on Fox and the flu hitting the station.

Before I bring up weekend events, let me mention a great event that I attended last week. I was a guest judge at a great USO event called Battle of the Brigades on Fort Drum. Over the autumn the brigades competed in talent contest and audiences voted on them and the best two acts from each Brigade moved onto the finals, Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the USO club on Fort Drum. The event was sponsored by Americu Credit Union, who gave out the prizes. As a judge, I must say it was difficult selecting the top five spots.
All contestants should be commended for coming out and competing. Here are some pictures from this fun event.

This play is a warm and hilarious look at life for a family living alone above a bar in the 1950’s. With four teenagers, a drunken grandfather, and a nun who is determined to recruit “soldiers for Christ,” Ellen and Chet Pazinski have their hands full.

Also two great classic comedies are playing at local high schools this weekend.

This infamous comedy about two elderly sisters that serve more than elderberry wine to unsuspecting elderly lonely gentlemen Stars Brooke Justice, Josh Miller, Lexi Hills and Toni Kelly.

LE MOYNE COLLEGE PRESENTS
SHAKESPEARE’S “AS YOU LIKE IT” AT THE
W. CARROLL COYNE CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS
The Department of Theater Arts, in conjunction with the Boot and Buskin Theatre Group of Le Moyne College will present As You Like It by William Shakespeare. Performance schedule is as follows:
Thursday, November 5 8:00pm
Friday, November 6 8:00pm
Saturday, November 7 8:00pm
As You Like It follows the lively exploits of banished Rosalind and her quest for true love amid the schemes of two warring brothers. In the idyllic Forest of Arden, Rosalind, disguised as a gentleman farmer, stumbles upon an extraordinary assemblage of characters, including a fool, a malcontent traveler, her own exiled father, and the cast out young man she loves. Astutely funny, As You Like It runs the gamut of the comedic canon, combining cross-dressing and slapstick with gentle satire and sparkling, witty conversation.

With the added twist of a modern day setting, the Le Moyne College production of As You Like It will be under the direction of Steven Braddock. Scenery and lights will be designed by Karel Blakeley and costumes designed by Meggan Camp.
Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and $4 for students and the Le Moyne community. For additional information and ticket reservations, please call the W. Carroll Coyne Center for the Performing Arts

Concerts and Music:
“Stan Rogers meets Van Halen” is how one fan described them, and Tanglefoot is indeed a mix of sweeping Canadiana and rampaging enthusiasm, but the count down is on with the last nine US shows begin in West Virginia with the final show ending a run of 20 + wonderful years of music and song with what is sure to be a blow out performance in Lowville, New York at The Lewis County Historical Society on Thursday November 5th.
They've played everywhere from the Fernie Arts Station in the Rocky Mountains to Lincoln Center in New York; they played in front of the Vimy Monument in France and trod the boards of the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond, England; they sang in the Endicott Performing Arts Center when it first opened in 1999, and in Southwell Minster in Nottinghamshire 900 years after it was built and 5 years ago were introduced to Lewis County.
But for everything there is a season, and 2009 will be the last for the iconic Canadian folk/roots band with the huge sound, the head-snapping harmonies and stunning vocal blend. Winner of "Best Vocal Group" at the 2007 Canadian Folk Music Awards, Tanglefoot has become an institution over their two-plus decades.
For information on ticket availability call 315-376-8957. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door if any remain the evening of the performance.
