What’s YOUR story?

There is more important word in our community than “Family.”  It means something different to each of us because each family has its own story.

The Ogdensburg Public Library and the Friends of the Library will present an entertaining evening exploring family stories.  On November 12th, at 7 pm in the Freight House Restaurant, Professor Joseph N. Muzio, retired from the City University of New York, will speak about the memoir of his parents "Buddy Remembers - Then and Now," and the value of every family's journey.  Just as "Buddy" wrote about his parents' experiences in America as immigrants, their values, along with their stories, and how they raised their children, he will also encourage all of us to become memoirists.  Joe will offer suggestions on the how and why of preserving the story of our families for our families, for ourselves, and for others.  Joe will be introduced by his cousin, long-time Ogdensburg resident, Francine Naccarato.

At 8 pm, Master Adirondack storyteller Bill Smith will take the stage.  Bill’s blend of tall tales and traditional songs has entertained regional audiences for decades.  At his most brilliant when he shares memories of his hardscrabble upbringing, his stories convey a common theme: family life is precious.  Raised on a subsistence farm outside South Colton as one of ten children, Bill’s shares stories that are a gift to his family.  They are also testament to the power and importance of our heritage in our community and region. Bill Smith is a treasure not to be missed.

The Freight House, an important piece of local heritage itself, is located at 20 Market Street, Ogdensburg.  A wine tasting will begin the evening at 6:30, with appetizers served.  Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door or in advance at the Chamber of Commerce and the Library.  Friends of the Library tickets are only $10. Friends memberships can be obtained at the door while buying tickets.  Proceeds will be used to continue the Friends’ efforts to update and upgrade the Library’s furnishings.
Join us for a pleasant evening with a purpose and message.  We will make you laugh and make you think at this first program of the Library’s new life-long learning series.
