Weekend of February 5-7

Not a lot of events this weekend, but they are really good ones.  Notice how none of them are happening on Sunday from 6-10pm.. because they don’t want to compete with you know what.

Okay two fun events in Watertown this weekend.

First the 11th Annual North Country Chili Cook-off at Dulles State Office is this Saturday from 11 am to 3pm.

This is a great annual fun event with our very own Mel Busler as a celebrity judge.  If there’s something Mel knows its food and sports of course.

This is a yellow ribbon event.

Admission is $6 Adults, $2 12 and Under- family $15.

Military I.D. $5 Adult, $1 12 and under, $12 Family.

Another great family event

Super Science Saturday!!

Look no further for something educational and fun to do with the kids on a winter Saturday! The Science Division at Jefferson Community College (JCC) will host Super Science Saturday (SSS) on February 6th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Super Science Saturday is a celebration of math and science and an exploration of science careers with demonstrations designed for kids in 5th through 8th grades, although family members of all ages are welcome to attend. Admission is free.

JCC faculty, assisted by current students, will give demonstrations in animal management, chemistry, biology, geology, math, engineering and health-related careers. Students will have the opportunity to explore and see how much fun science can be by participating in hands-on demonstrations and attending the chemistry magic show presented by James Peploski of Clarkson University. Those who complete exhibit activities will be eligible for prizes. Additionally, several community organizations will be on hand to share career information with students.

SSS will take place at JCC in the Jules Center, McVean Student Center and the Guthrie Science Building. Concessions, parking, a campus map and programs will be available at the event.

CONCERT PICK

Lewis County Historical Society is delighted to announce the third act of the 2010 Black River Valley Concert Series at Lewis County Historical Society on Saturday February 6th with the Lipbone Redding Orchestra.

Inventive voicestrumentalist, Southern Gentleman and former subway musician, Lipbone Redding, creates original songs that effervesce with New Orleans swing, Memphis grooves and New York City style. Though his songs stand alone, his entire show is greased with uncanny riffs of vocal trumpeting (AKA THE LIP-BONE*), booming mouth percussion, hilarious side moments and esoteric lyrics. Witty, soulful, and sincere, this freespirit has caught fire in Manhattan's downtown scene. Known for his ability to use his vocal to sound exactly like a trombone, it’s hard to tell the difference -- unless you witness the phenomenon live. Lipbone and his two-man orchestra make for a show greased with uncanny riffs of vocal trumpeting, booming mouth percussion, hilarious side moments and esoteric lyrics.

Tickets for this event are $15 in advance or $20 at the door and can be purchased at Cafe Z on South State Street in historic downtown Lowville at Dr. Guitar Music at 154 Court Street in Watertown or by calling Lewis County Historical Society at 376-8957, no credit cards are accepted.  Doors for the event held at 7552 South State Street in Lowville will open at 7:40 pm with the concert beginning at 8PM. Refreshments will be available for purchase, however no food or beverages may be brought into the facility.  Corporate sponsorship for the event is by Otis Technologies; Housing is being provided by The Butterscotch House B & B with hospitality by Jeb’s Restaurant.

The Black River Valley Concert Series is a fund raising arm of Lewis County Historical Society.  Support the humanities and arts by joining or volunteering at your local historical society today!  To learn how, call 376-8957
