‘A TIME TO SHINE’ -   The 31st Annual Tri County Student Art Show at the Dulles State Office Building

Over thirty years has passed since the inception of the idea to have a collaborated multi-level student art show in the North Country. Each year the show has taken on a life of its own and has proven to be a great way to celebrate our school-aged children, the arts, and to recognize all the hard work that is generated within our local fine arts departments.

With major financial support by Carthage Savings and Loan along with the Tri County Art Teachers Association (TCATA) this extraordinary annual event is like no other throughout the entire region. Work will be on view covering the entire spectrum of artists. The Tri County Art Show encompasses work from our talented future kindergarten artists to amazingly devoted and hard-working seniors.

This year’s opening reception is scheduled for Monday May 12th from 6-9pm at the Dulles State Office. Once again an awards ceremony honoring our standout student artists is scheduled for the same evening beginning at 7pm in the auditorium. It promises to be a great night of entertainment and inspiration for all who attend. Plan on taking advantage of viewing high quality works of art right here in your own backyard. If you are unable to join us for the opening reception, please consider making plans to view the show sometime through Thursday, May 22nd during regular business hours.

Although Carthage Savings and Loan is our major sponsor, several other local businesses and associations have pitched in once again to help fund this display, expenses that include the cost of ribbons, monetary awards, award ceremony assistance, as well as, other financial demands of this highly successful show. Several Monetary Art Awards, presented each year, recognize students for their hard work and their exemplary works of art. The members of the TCATA involved would like to thank Carthage Savings and Loan and all of the sponsors who donate so generously year after year to make this show possible. When all sponsorships are in and accounted for, a complete list will be detailed in the program the night of the opening reception.

This year’s exhibit will be held from Monday May 12th through Thursday May 22nd.

This show annually demonstrates the high quality art programs available to students in the northern region of New York State. Alongside the student work, the public will also have the opportunity to observe the 9th annual art teacher show, giving each instructor a chance to show their students and the general public that they ‘practice what they preach’.

A breakdown of the show is a follows: Several categories and levels of art work will be represented. Elementary level students through 7th grade will each be awarded participation ribbons. However, 8th grade through 12th grade submissions will be judged presenting each work art with a first, second, or third place ribbon. There will also be a ‘Best of Show’ awarded to both a studio and an advanced level student. Local judging and awards are based on the following criteria:

All entries MUST BE ORIGINAL and cannot be retouched by the art teacher. The emphasis of this show is STUDENT CREATIVITY. Students’ works may be created in drawing, painting, and sculptural materials. Photography is also a category which demonstrates the artistic eye of our local school-aged children. As always, a mixing of media is encouraged. A category, developed for seniors to submit a collection of their best 8 works as a portfolio in either the photography category or fine art, is a highlight of the show each year.

Mark your calendars for Monday May 12th. It’s a wonderful opportunity for everyone to admire and applaud all the fine works of art that our local art students and art instructors have accomplished during the course of the 2013-14 school year.
