The St. Lawrence Arts Council -
On Wednesday, October 6th the St. Lawrence County Arts Council will host a special evening of individual consultations to help visual artists and crafts people improve their professional materials and strengthen the business side of their arts careers. This event is a regional part of a statewide consulting program developed by the New York Foundation for the Arts – NYFA. Artists can register for a half-hour consultation slot between 6:30 and 9:30pm. During the session, artists can ask for feedback on their artist statement, their portfolio, their website, or get advice on finding galleries or other aspects of their arts career. The fee for each half hour consultation session is $25. The consultations will be held at the SLC Arts Council gift shop and gallery at 51 Market Street in Potsdam.
Two professional North Country artists, Kasarian Dane and Sara Lynch, have been trained as consultants through NYFA. They will serve as one-on-one consultants to provide advice and resources for artists. Mr. Dane is a painter and arts faculty member at St. Lawrence University. He received his BFA in painting from the University of Minnesota and his MFA in painting and drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Ms. Lynch is a collage artist and ceramic sculptor. She received her BFA in painting and ceramics from Alfred University.
Also throughout the evening, Hilary Oak, Executive Director of the SLC Arts Council, will be available to provide information on resources and grants available for artists through NYFA and other organizations.
When you call to register, please be prepared to briefly describe what artistic style and media you work in, and what type of feedback and assistance you are interested in. Please call 315-265-6860 to register in advance. Call soon as there are a limited number of spaces available. Additional artist consultation events will be scheduled in future months.
