Mike Birbiglia’s central character, Matt, crossing the sometimes terrifying line from twenties to thirties, finds himself bombarded with questions about the success—or not—of his career and personal relationships. A sleepwalker in real life, Birbiglia and co-writer Ira Glass (This American Life) have re-imagined that fact as the central metaphor for the way he sees himself, pressured by his friends and parents to marry his long-term girlfriend and brutally aware of the possibilities for failure in his career in stand-up comedy. The movie moves seamlessly from hilarious episodes to bizarre nightmares. Birbiglia’s “humor comes across strongly in visual terms, with funny observations layered into casting, performance and every aspect of the production.” (Peter Debruge, Variety)   (NR; 90 min.)
