Talented Student Musicians will Share the Stage on Oct. 7

The talented student musicians of the Crane Symphonic Band and Crane Concert Band will share the stage to perform a joint fall concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7 in Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall. Dr. Brian K. Doyle, professor and director of bands, will conduct the Crane Symphonic Band, and Dr. Michael P. Schaff, professor of instrumental conducting and music education, will conduct the Crane Concert Band.

The symphonic band program will include "La Procesion du Rocio" by Joaquin Turin and arranged by Alfred Reed, "Elegy" by John Barnes Chance, "Sea Songs" by Ralph Vaughan Williams and "Armenian Dances" by Aram Khachaturian. Additionally, Michael S. Wilson, visiting instructor of trombone at the Crane School of Music, will be featured in a performance of Arthur Frackenpohl's piece, "Divertimento for Trombone and Band." The Crane Symphonic Band consists of 60 students on wind instruments and percussion.

The concert band will present "Circus Overture," written by William Schuman and arranged by Don Owen, "Reflections" by Roger Nixon, and "Circus Franticus" by Julie Giroux. Ross Lee Finney's piece, "Summer in Valley City," which includes movements inspired by parades, games and fireworks, will also be performed. The Crane Concert Band consists of 70 students on wind and percussion instruments.
