The Jefferson County Historical Society, 228 Washington Street, Watertown is pleased to welcome back special guest lecturer Marjorie Marilley Ransom on Thursday, August 14th from 5pm to 7pm.

Mrs. Marilley Ransom, a Croghan native, will be speaking on her new book entitled Silver Treasures from the Land of Sheba: Yemeni Regional Jewelry. The book is the fruit of several years spent by Mrs. Marilley Ransom living in the silver market of old Sana’a in Yemen and her studies of Yemeni jewelry. Her writing takes the reader to each locale that produced the jewelry, showing the pieces, the costumes, the scenery, the architecture and, whenever possible, the women wearing it. Most of these items have not been seen before.

This exclusive evening at the Paddock Mansion will include a wine and hors d’oeurves reception featuring local and regional cuisine as well as a small exhibition of Yemeni silver jewelry from Mrs. Marilley Ransom’s private collection. A limited number of hardcover copies of Silver Treasures from the Land of Sheba: Yemeni Regional Jewelry will be available for purchase at the Museum for $35.00.

The evening is free to the public but please call the Museum at (315) 782-3491 to reserve your seat or to preorder a copy of this breathtaking book.
