- Local artist Vern Mauk will be offering drawing classes in his home studio in Massena starting in June. These classes are open to aspiring artists high school aged and up.

Classes meet Mondays for five weeks: June 23 and 30, July 7, 14 and 21. Students may choose from two different time slots, 9:00 to 11:00 am or 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Classes will include pencil drawing as well as an introduction to ink drawing, and skills will include how to illustrate dimension for perspective and utilizing the contrast between light and dark. Students will use Mauk's book, Ink Drawing Fun, in class and will have the opportunity to purchase their own copy directly from the artist. Mauk has been teaching drawing and watercolor classes for the past 23 years; he formerly taught high school art classes in Massena.

Cost is $75 for a 5 week session, and students are asked to bring their own supplies with them to Mauk’s gallery and studio at 9 Old Farm Circle in Massena. Students should bring a drawing pad 8"x10" or larger (Strathmore brand preferred), a soft eraser, ultra fine tip permanent markers (Sharpie brand preferred), and drawing pencils in three hardnesses: 2B, 4B and 6B.
