Ken Reimer - Photographer

By Craig Thornton

Thousand Islands Arts Center (TIAC) will host an evening with Ken Riemer
– photographer of TIAC’s current exhibit Light, Shadow, and Dance – on Thursday, October 10
from 5-7pm. The exhibit is on display through December 7 but Thursday’s wine and cheese
reception offers attendees the chance to speak with the artist about his creative process and the
stories behind the photos.

Ken Riemer is a commercial photographer based in greater Rochester, New York. Self taught in
the art of photography and lighting, the artist has owned and operated his studio for more than
three decades. In addition to his commercial work for a diverse client base, Riemer is often
called upon to use his expertise to direct the lighting of motion picture and HD projects.

In this exhibition, Riemer showcases his work with professional ballet dancers with each
photograph highlighting his precise ability to capture the intersection of movement, light and
time. The show is directly reflective of Riemer’s belief that there is only one precise moment
(“one tiny window of opportunity,” as he articulates) when these three elements intersect. All
artwork is for sale and each giclee print is part of a limited addition of 10 prints.

Also on display: textiles from TIAC’s nationally renowned permanent handweaving collection in
a supplementary exhibit, Weavings of Harmony, Texture, and Light.

The Thousand Islands Arts Center is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to the
preservation and promotion of traditional arts and handcrafts through educational programs,
classes, lectures, and exhibits. Home to a nationally renowned permanent collection and library
of handwoven textiles, the Arts Center also offers a wide variety of classes for all levels of
students – from the beginner to the professional artist. The Thousand Islands Arts Center’s
purpose is to encourage the art of handcrafts and to pass on the traditions of heritage arts.
