Say It Isn't So - Leonard Maltin's Guide is Going

Several sources including USAToday and CBS are reporting that the thick and fantastic book Leonard Maltin's (2015) Movie Guide is being published for the last time. The voluminous tome that is over 1,000 pages has been a staple for cinephiles for 36th years.

I love this book and usually buy it every third year.  It is amazing how many obscure gems I have found in this book then went on to rent and watch.  Just this morning I saw a film that looked interesting that I never heard of called Win Win.

Lack of readership is the main reason the publication is discontinuing. Maltin reports that most people read reviews online.  This may be true for newly released films, but Maltin's guide couldn't possibly be replaced for films that may be 15 years or more old.

I once made a list of dream jobs and was so obsessed with Maltin's guide I listed a reviewer for him as one of my dream jobs.  Sadly I have to take this off the buck list now.  Well, I guess it gives me more time to fulfill my dream of becoming a writer for Prairie Home Companion.
