St. Lawrence County Arts Council Announces New Executive Director
Ms. Wilkins-Pepiton is a visual artist and arts educator living and working in Canton, New York. She holds an MEd in Art Education from the University of Idaho, and completed her BA in photography at Wayland Baptist University. Beka moved to the North Country during the summer of 2012 after serving with the U.S. Peace Corps and living in Southwest China for two years. Before moving to China, Beka taught high school visual art in Colorado where she developed Pagosa Springs’ Fine Arts Magnet Academy. She also worked as Public Relations & Marketing Director for Square Top Repertory Theatre, based in the Four Corners Region.
As an artist, Ms. Wilkins-Pepiton works in a variety of mediums: printmaking, photography, mixed media, and graphic design. Her woodcut prints will be a part of The Great BIG Smalls VIII at Ottawa’s Cube gallery in December 2012. Her work has been shown in galleries throughout the U.S. Beka’s photography and mixed media works have appeared in journals and anthologies such as the Rio Grande Review and Ruminate Magazine, as well as on a variety of book jackets. Her book Broken Cycles, a conversation between her photography and the poetry of Damon Falke, was published by Shechem Press in 2007. She also produced the relief prints for Shechem Press’ 2008 and 2012 Artist Broadsides alongside poems by Joshua Mehigan, Saara Raappana, Kevin Meaux, and Damon Falke. Ms. Wilkins-Pepiton will begin working at the SLC Arts Council during the month of December, and will officially take the role of Executive Director in January 2013.
