Artists Studio Tour in St. Lawrence County

Over 30 artists around St. Lawrence County are opening their workspaces for the public to visit on Veterans’ Day weekend, Saturday, November 9 through Monday, November 11. SLC Arts publishes a free brochure so anyone can take a free self-guided tour and meet potters, painters, jewelers, fiber artists, photographers, and more in their own communities. In the Canton and Ogdensburg areas, here are some of the tour highlights:

Painter David Crowell has kept busy participating in many SLC Arts events throughout the year including their recent Art Walk in October. His watercolor paintings draw inspiration from the Adirondack area, but his works also include East Asian style brush paintings. His watercolor and Sumi-e paintings will both be on display at his studio in Canton. Kathy Montan creates three dimensional pieces by felting colorful wool. Her work at her Canton studio will include jewelry and scarves in addition to her sculptures and wall-hangings. Judith Utter's botanical and natural science illustrations have been reproduced in several different mediums including printing on silk scarves. Her detailed watercolor paintings will be on display at her studio in Canton.

Thomas Robarge, Jr. has been on the tour many years and loves opening his Ogdensburg-based studio to meet new people. His acrylic paintings are some of the more abstract work found on the tour. Scott Ouderkirk is new to the tour this year. His studio is located in Hammond, and will be showcasing his kiln-fired stained glass panels.

Other Studio Tour favorites in this area include: TAUNY and Roxanne Locy in Canton; Ron Larsen in Crary Mills; Mary Ann and Malcolm Owen, Judy Andrus Toporcer, and Leon LeBeau in Colton; Sally White Hartman and Mary Harding in Rensselaer Falls.

Visit www.slcartscouncil.org > Local Art > Studio Tour for a complete list of local artists who are participating this year. For more information, contact SLC Arts: 315-265-6860.
