Mary Demianenko of Adams shares the second in a series of recipes she's showing us each week in February.

She put together a cookbook of old recipes she updated, making substitutions for old-fashioned ingredients, such as lard. Some of the recipes date back to 1873.

This week, it's sugar cookies.

Sugar Cookies

1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
1 tablespoon water
1 egg
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder

Mix all ingredients to form dough. Sprinkle dough with flour, then roll out and cut into shapes.

Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes or until brown. Decorate as desired. Makes about 30 cookies
