JCC to Hold Silo Fire Safety Seminar

Jefferson Community College will present the Garrett Loomis Fire Safety and Educational Series beginning with a seminar on silo fire safety open to all emergency medical services personnel of Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Oswego, Onondaga and Oneida Counties.

Attendees will learn how to differentiate between conventional silos and oxygen limiting silos.

David E. Hill, a senior extension associate at Pennsylvania State University who led the development of the Pennsylvania Agricultural Rescue and Emergency Medical Services Programs, will facilitate the seminar.

David is a licensed paramedic and a member of his local fire department for nearly 30 years.

He holds a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from the University of Massachusetts.

The free seminar is made possible through the Northern New York Community Foundation and the Garrett Loomis Fund.

Garrett Loomis was the Assistant Fire Chief of the Sackets Harbor Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Firefighters Local F-105 Fort Drum Fire and Emergency Services when he died in April 2010 on the scene of a silo fire.

The seminar will be held Saturday, April 14 from 9 AM - 2 PM in Room 6-002 at the Jules Center at JCC.
