Local Red Cross Chapter To Honor 15 Heroes

The Northern New York Chapter of the American Red Cross will honor 15 people from the north country for their heroic actions during the past year at the Real Heroes Breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m. next Wednesday at the Hilton Garden Inn in Watertown.
The Real Heroes Breakfast celebrates the Red Cross mission of alleviating human suffering by honoring people from throughout Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties who have performed heroic acts to help others in need.
This year's honorees include: a woman who taught her friend the skills she needed to save her 8-month-old son's life; two people who donated kidneys to save the lives of young men; eight Fort Drum soldiers and a police officer who rescued people from their burning homes; and a volunteer fire fighter who prevented a runaway ferry with passengers from crashing into the shoreline.
The Red Cross has not hosted a Real Heroes Breakfast in northern New York for more than 10 years.

The breakfast has become a signature event for other chapters throughout the American Red Cross Central New York Region, and Northern New York Community Chapter Executive Jane Gendron wanted to bring it back to recognize this area's Real Heroes.
For more information about the breakfast, contact Gendron at (315) 782-4410.
