It's good on grilled steak or, for Lent, on shrimp. Chef Chris Manning prepares a barbecue sauce made with maple syrup and beer.

1/2 cup real maple syrup
Combine all ingredients in a small sauce pan and simmer on low heat for 15 to 20 minutes. Cook meat, spread sauce on top the last few minutes of cooking.
