We know exercise does a body good...but now there's news that it may be good for memory, too!
Researchers at The Cooper Institute have found evidence that being physically fit in mid-life...may lower your risk for Alzheimer's Disease and other types of dementia later on.
Records were reviewed from nearly 20-thousand healthy, middle-aged adults who had taken a treadmill test as part of a regular health clinic visit.
Based on how long they were able to run, participants were divided into categories of the most fit ...or the least fit.
They were then followed past the age of 65 to see who developed dementia.
Those who were the most physically fit earlier in life were much less likely to develop dementia than those who were less fit.
The findings do not go as far as to suggest a specific level of fitness that people need to maintain to
prevent dementia...but this study certainly suggests a little exercise might have long lasting impact.
