Asthma and Pregnancy
By Health Day
.. Now, new research shows the long-term effects the condition may have on growing children.
A study .. published in the journal Pediatrics used data from more than 66-thousand Danish women...focusing on more than 4-thousand who suffered from asthma during their pregnancies. Their children were then followed for an average of six years.
The results? Maternal asthma during pregnancy was associated with an increased risk of a variety of issues in children including:
-endocrine and metabolic disorders
-and problems with the nervous system, ears, respiratory system, digestive system, and even the skin.
The researchers say more studies are needed, but moving forward they recommend, women with asthma be closely monitored during pregnancy by both their obstetrician and their family physician or internist.
